Last year a friend who'd bought a self portrait of me at a show 10
years ago or so, called to see if she could return it now, because
she didn't have space in her new apartment in Toronto.  She'd

moved to a much smaller space.  I said sure of course, and she
brought the painting over.

But I thought, she'd paid a fair price for the painting, and it didn't
seem right for her to just give it back.  So I gave her this little
painting of some of one of my favourite flowers, which are 
starting to bloom in our garden right now.  That felt much
better, and she was happy.
