Happy Halloween

Halloween is always a special day for me because
it's my birthday.  As a little girl I found it incredibly
exciting to see everyone celebrating what seemed
like the most kid-centered holiday of the year on my
birthday, and that hasn't changed.  Tonight as I
watched the little people come to my door, I was
reminded as I am every year of the pure joy and
excitement little children, and now older children,
teens and even the occasional adult can bring into the
mix.
My neighbour with his cool Mask on the door technique.
He can stand so his head is behind the pumpkin.

Sometimes I'm overwhelmed with how brilliant
we are as a species in my part of the world (don't worry
I can fall into the trap of thinking the opposite is
true too.)  But this business of Halloween is perfectly
timed to place warm colour, bright costumes, laughter,
a slightly crazy party vibe out in the world, just when
summer is turning her back on us, and we're feeling the
cold finger of true fall, pre-winter coming on.

So to one and all Happy Halloween.

Have a delighting-in-the-orange-pumpkins day.

Wow! I didn't realize you were a Halloween birthday. How cool! I too find Halloween a great holiday. I seem to gravitate to the Macabre side of it. Ghosts and goblins kind of things.
Happy birthday only a day late. :)

I hope you had a great day Barbara! What a fun holiday to be able to enjoy alongside your birthday. My kids had a blast yesterday... and at school on Friday. I love seeing the world through their eyes.

Here's a big birthday hug and kiss for you...

Hi Sally,

Thanks so much. It is a truly super day to be born on. My mother says it wasn't intentional, but I don't know. It certainly has been great for me.

Hi Eldon,

I really dislike the macabre side, probably because when you're born on that date, you see masks and scary costumes long before you're ready. I always wanted to be a princess, or a nurse. No strange make up.

Thanks so much for the sweet birthday wishes and for being an inspiration all year round.

Take care,

Barbara

Hi NIcki,

I did have a super day. I love watching how little kids react. But candy, going out past your bed time. Come on! It doesn't take them long to love that.
