A love of bright colour

Fall in Bear River
Acrylic on canvas
10 x 10 inches
© Barbara Muir
I painted this piece to honour  Flora Doehler
who moved from Toronto a number of years ago to
the little town of Bear River in Nova Scotia,
where she has been a very happy citizen along
with her wonderful husband Larry Knox.

Flora Doehler is one of my favourite painters and a friend.
She paints in vibrant colours that leap off the canvas, and
captivate her collectors.  And I am in constant awe of
her work.

So my painting Fall in Bear River was painted a few years
back to celebrate both Flora and Larry's brave move from
urban Toronto, to semi rural Nova Scotia, and to show
the beauty of that area, which we've visited many times.

Have a loving-nature's-beauty day.

Thank you for your kind words Barbara! Your painting will make me see that scene with new colours in my head.
I will tell your readers that over 15 years ago we both belonged to a large art club in Toronto. There were 150 members and we used to have group shows. I had admired your paintings at the shows as you, like me, were a lover of colour. I was at one of the shows gazing at your painting and mentioned to a fellow member that I've love to meet you. She said 'Barbara is sitting the show today...come on I'll introduce you." Apparently you were drawn to my work too and were (are) a warm, fun person with enthusiasm about life and about painting. That hasn't changed in all these years. Thank you Barbara for being you. xoxo

Thank you Flora. I loved the scene and love the countryside. I am glad that serendipity and
a love of colour brought us together. Since that fateful date, your tremendous energy,
gorgeous work and brilliant sense of humour have cemented this lovely friendship.
Plus I constantly admire your bravery and tenacity.

And I thank you to the max for being you. Knowing you are out there in a part of the land
I love means so much to me.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO Barbara

How wonderful, Barbara, l that you and Flora continue your special friendship. I too admire Flora's work. I remember a great show the two of you shared some years ago at a gallery on St. Clair.
This painting has a marvellous quilt-like quality with the houses nestled in the hills -- whimsical and fascinating - I love it.

Hi Marcia,

Thank you so much. I think the last time Flora and I showed together was in the library just north of Eglinton
off Yonge. That was a while back. Flora and Larry were always so organized. I loved
that. I always felt like I was in the middle of a thunder storm trying to organize my
work, and get it up, and Flora and Larry were as calm as can be, and brought the
most amazing ladders and tools. Pros. Thanks for that memory. I'm glad you like the
painting.

XOXOXOXOXOXO Barbara
