The feeling of coming home

The fields between

Painting is a driving force in my life I realize.  Without
painting I do feel a bit lost.  I'm so happy to finish this scene today
of the fields just inside the New Brunswick border when you
drive out of Amherst, Nova Scotia.  Plus it's a landscape I've looked at
with delight every time we pass it when we're visiting the
Maritimes.  Perhaps that's because clouds love this wide open
space and perform gorgeous miracles for the fields below.

On the way to our school house these fields are a sign that we
are almost there.  A joyous sight after the long, long trip from
Toronto, and our skyscraper views.

Have a loving the work you do day.

So beautiful, your painting. Makes me want to go out east to the coast, experience some of that landscape in person. One day, I hope. Thanks for posting your beautiful work and thoughts.

Found your blog through my artist friend Louise Cloutier. Delighted to read your impression of this border area - it is literally my backyard these past 3 years. I share your awe in the marshy expanse and I know well this play of sun and cloud and field. The historic layer of this area is no less compelling an inspiration for painting. It may be those voices of struggle and heartbreak, still resonant in field and sky, that call so pleadingly to the artist. Beautiful. Thrilled to see your answer to the call.Thank you.

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you so much for your thoughts. Sorry to take so long to respond. I'm in a painting/teaching whirl. Lucky you living right there. It is magnificent, with promise of more beauty and wonderful people in every direction. When we first visited the east coast we delved deep into the history. And still do if we have time to visit an historic site (which is all of the place is I know), but what I love about the people in our town (we have a school house near Pugwash), is how much they live in the present, and appreciate what they've got.

XOXOXOXOXO Barbara
