Parties and Saturday night

Photographing for the blog in the kitchen

Here is one of the paintings I'm working on as
it appeared a couple of days ago surrounded by the
flowers on our kitchen counter.  Yesterday I went to
a wonderful party for a friend's birthday.  She looked
beautiful and was surrounded by well wishers having
a great time in the party room at her new town house.
The guests were fun and fascinating and the food entirely
too good. I found out out about mirror neurons -- the
tendency of the neurons in our brains to mirror not just
the actions but the brain patterns of those around us, and
a book called Connected by Nicholas Christakis and James
Fowler which explains this idea.

Then today on the science show Quirks and Quarks on CBC
I heard that the speed of light is variable!  The world just
seems to get more and more exciting and mind bending by
the second these days.  So... it is Saturday night and time to
take a break.  I am still making minute changes to my
work for the show that opens next Saturday.  I will give you
all the info tomorrow again.  If you're in town, please drop
over to Studio Vogue next weekend to see what I am sure will
be a really great show.

Have a let's-have-fun-it's-the-weekend day.

I've been following this painting, love the colors. I always like to see others kitchens and ways of photographing!

I too have been watching the progress of this delightful painting. It looks wonderful there in your happy kitchen!

About Mirror Neurons...watched a program called "Rethinking Happiness". Studies show it's contagious. Being with happy people makes us happy. Even our friend's friend can cause happiness in us. In fact, it doesn't stop until we are removed 4 times. That means it continues until we get to our friend's friend's friend's friend!!! That's a lot of ability for happiness. :)

Your kitchen looks exactly like mine. Never get tired of white cabinets with glass. Your painting looks great sitting up there.

Hi Pam,

Thanks so much. If at all possible I photograph in the kitchen, or outside. There is more light in our kitchen than anywhere else in the house.

Hi Gwen,

I just listened to a show about the happiness part of the Mirror Neuron idea, and apparently happiness spreads with more facility than sadness. Good news if happiness is what you seek. I just love this whole idea. One thing's for sure. You and your paintings make me happy.

Hi Karen,

That is cool. No I have not become tired of them and they're about 10 years old. I copied the design from a Martha Stewart magazine and we had a kitchen guy who could translate that to hold our china (we needed deep shelves for big tureens).

I am so impressed and excited by your series of portraits. They are wonderful.
