The first Robin

It doesn't seem entirely right to be hearing the first
Robin on the second of March, but I did. It
was one of those glorious days that feels so much
like spring. You understand why we need snow,
because the small amount that fell last week is
melting, and the streets are noisy with rivers
running down to the storm sewers.

And the birds are going crazy with sound,
signalling the whole, mad, wild spring thing is
about to begin. Both cats insisted on being taken
outside for a few minutes today. The dog hung around in
the sun on the back porch and wouldn't come in
until she smelled food.

I decided to paint a little plein indoor scene from
an upstairs bedroom window, but didn't finish
it on time to show you. The sun was in my eyes,
and I opened the window to reduce the glare.
And there it was -- a Robin singing on March 2nd.
Wow! I was so excited that I put down my brushes
and went outside with the dog.

Tonight's painting is from my art group. It was
as always such a pleasure to see my friends there.

Have an-oh-boy-it's-time-to-clean-the-windows day.

I think it is smart to know that there are some occasions too important even to paint. Going outside with the dog to greet the harbingers of spring certainly counts as one of those times!

Barbara,
That singing robin you encountered yesterday might well have been David, March 2 was his birthday, although I think he may be a peacock – you don’t think he’s a hedge hog do you? That was an awfully cute card you sent him. I just looked at it now. Hedgehogs are fascinating aren’t they? – much more than I realized.
Another lovely portrait, Barbara. The onset of spring air must agree with you.

Isn't it great? I heard birds singing this morning when I woke up in my bed and was so happy! Spring is in the air!

Don't know as I've seen one down here yet. Like you, that seems to be my sign of the promise of warmer weather.

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks so much. I'm pretty good at thinking up reasons, but this time I
was dedicated to my craft and nature had another plan for me. That sound is just so joyous! Your heart stirs,
and your mind goes crazy with optimism.

Take care,

Barbara

Hi Marcia,

I'm glad David liked his card. Nature gave him an exceptionally beautiful and cheerful day -- entirely fitting I thought.

Thank you so much for your lovely compliment. Spring air does agree with me 100%.

Hi Eldon,

Of course things are so crazy lately that sometimes they winter over, but although it hasn't been that snowy, it has certainly been cold, and they did go south this year.

Take care,

Barbara
