It's an early morning baby

(Here's a detail of the baby in his
mother's arms. He is a beautiful baby
and I'm enjoying painting him so much.)

I have been working on my painting a bit
tonight after getting home late from school.
I'm almost finished the baby's face. Not quite.

So I'll share his sweet little face with you, and
then you'll see it again at least once. The rest
of the painting needs thought and more work,
so I'll show you that part later. This is a big,
big painting -- 30 inches x 30 inches -- so it
takes time and thought to complete it. No
surprise says Monet. Thanks Monet in my
head! (I saw an exhibition of Monet paintings
in Stuttgart, Germany that blew my mind. I felt
his presence so strongly in the room. He went
back 60 times to the same spot to get the light
right on the poplars he was painting, which look
so light and ethereal. But the paint is very thick.)

It's quite late and I have my very early morning
coming up. Please forgive me for not getting
back to you on the comments. It could be a bit
slow for the next few weeks, but I'll do my best
to catch up. I'm going to be working on a large
work series, so I will be wonderfully busy.

More on that at a much later date. Have a
super day tomorrow.

Have a resolving-every-dilemma-and-laughing day.

There was an impressionist show here at the Denver Art Museum and my "impression" is that Monet is still da man!

And you work still amazes me. This baby's face just shines.

Hi Barbara
There is such a wise, intelligent look on this beautiful, cherubic lad! It makes me beam just to look at him so I can imagine how his mom must feel!
love, Marcia

I had the privilege of seeing Monet's work at the Clark a few years ago and was deeply moved by his paintings and sketches.

You're doing great work here and I look forward to seeing the finish.

Spring is coming!

Hi Eldon,

Thanks so much. He is the man. I remember being so moved after spending four hours in the exhibition that I got teary when I was describing my feelings to Steven that night at dinner. It was a very overpowering experience.

Take care,

Barbara

Hi Marcia,

He actually has a perfect cherub's face. There's something both sweet and determined about him. I love that combination in a baby.

Hi Melinda,

What I loved about the work in Germany was how thick it was. Plus on each horizon there was this place where as a painter I knew what he'd done, and he'd swiped the paint on and up into the sky or trees in a line, not in the same colour as the rest of the work. I could feel him beside me explaining what he'd done, and how he did it in that one gesture, and I was so deeply affected by that feeling.

I wish he had actually materialized in his dapper tweeds with the buttons on the pant legs. That was a great look.
Have a fabulous show! I wish I could be there. I am in spirit and so is my Monet.

Hi Barbara,

Look at this little face! Oh my! What a happy little doll. I saw it the other day, but didn't have time to comment. Well done.
