Last minute portrait

Self-portrait in a sun hat

The little self portrait is my last minute entry in
David Lobenberg's Self Love Portrait Paint Out.
I've been thinking about what to paint since he
announced the cut off date -- today, but have
been so busy with other commitments that I
forgot about it, then woke up today thinking
Yeesh! I've got to get that thing happening.

I hauled out the hat I planned to wear, and set
to work. This hat (David insisted on a hat) is
a sunhat with very large fake cloth flowers that
pin on. You can take them off when you're
feeling shy, because believe me when I wear this
hat in the park, people look at me as if I have
completely lost it. Apparently we're all supposed
to be in baseball caps, or Tilley's! I look really
awful in both of those options.

So here's my finished little face. Thanks David
for the challenge and for teaching me to keep
on painting. I hope you let my entry in.

And David -- rock on!

Have a getting-to-know-your-own-face day.

I'll bet that hat looks just fine on ya. Flowers or not, plastic or not. I like it.

Hi Eldon,

They're not plastic, they're big silly silk things.

Thanks for the compliment. You are sweet.

Take care,

Barbara

gorgeous little portrait Barbara! So sunny and happy. I love the hat too, it's fun to see someone wearing something unique, that's probably why people stared at you in the park; sheep dont try things different, but artists should!
I was planning to do a portrait too for that 'Self Love in'challenge that David posted, but alas,...i didn't get my act in gear soon enough!!not this time. story of my life. he he.

Hi Sally,

Sally -- your act is so in gear. I just love your paintings. They're wonderful.

I seem to be on a manic painting kick, and I'm running with it, because I know the energy is rare.

Give yourself a break. Thanks for your sweet comments.

Take care,

Barbara

I like the picture AND the hat! Very well done.

Hi Janie,

Thanks so much. I bought the hat years ago at the One of a Kind craft show in Toronto, and it is really a great sunhat.

I'm not a hat person, except by
necessity, but I have one or two good ones. This is one of them.

Take care,

Barbara
