Marty's house

Marty's yellow house
acrylic on canvas
8 x 8 inches
Barbara Muir © 2009

I sat on the porch the other night painting the view
up the street. I've wanted to paint my friend
Marty's house for awhile, and so I began.

This is probably not where I thought it
would end up. Her house is the yellow one
with the massive blue roof. Are the houses
on my street this bright? Not by a long shot.
I've pretty much gone with the shape, and the
colour is all mine.

Forgive me Marty. Marty and Jon have one
of the nicest marriages I've ever had the
pleasure to watch. They love one another
big time, and are sweet friends and kind
neighbours. Their kids are wonderful too.

So that's the story. It's a happy one, maybe
that's what made the house bright yellow.
It's Saturday and I'm going to watch a movie.

Have a happiness-is-golden day.

Oh, Barbara that is just darling! Ok, maybe not the most painterly thing to say... but I really do like it. It makes me happy to look at it. :-)

Nice work as per normal Barbara. I like the way you use color to give a painting a mood or add your mood to it. Thanks for showing us. Always a treat!

Bright and lively like a patchwork quilt!

Another terrific painting. Love the colors, as usual. Do you usually make your paintings so small? I'm just curious. I guess you can make a lot more when you do that.

Hi LeSan,

Thanks so much. I'm glad you like it. You are so sweet.

I felt happy looking at it too.

Hi Eldon,

Thanks so much. When I'm painting straight from life it's so easy. Colours leap out of the tray and tube and decide where they'll go. Afterwards I sometimes rethink and maybe that's not so good. This is cheery -- my goal.

Take care,

Barbara

Hi R.,

Thanks so much. I'm glad you like it.

It will soon be quilt weather here, and I must say that's one of the things I do love about cooler weather.

Take care,

Barbara

Hi Janie,

Thanks so much for your kind words. I am working on some very large paintings in the background here. The small paintings are my answer to a European idea, of painting something small every day. I am selling them, and getting ready to do so in an organized way.

Sometimes the small paintings take as much time as a larger one. And sometimes not. Mood, sleep, time, and food seem to make the difference.

Take care,

Barbara

Such happiness in this painting and with a happy story, too. (After reading your post I realized that I tend to make many of my houses yellow - so, may they all be happy homes...may we all have happiness in our homes!
